Out Of The Ashes

BOOK REVIEW

REVIEWED BY SOPHIE THOMPSON

The main characters are Becky Morley and her Dad. Becky, as well as her Dad, loves animals.

Becky starts to write her diary on the 1st of January. Her dad gave it to her on Becky’s 13th birthday. This is not a story at all. It all happened. It was New Year and Dad was ringing a bell for he was a bell ringer. Dad sang “Danny Boy” which was his favourite song in the whole wide world. Jay, Becky’s best friend, was with her in the graveyard, lying down. When they got home, Becky went to see Ruby, her horse, just to say happy New Year. Then Becky’s school teacher has a baby and her new teacher who is covering for her made them what he might be thinking. Jay wrote a really good poem called “Thinking Nothing.” Then something awful happens, they get foot and mouth disease on their farm. All the animals have to be killed…

I love this book. It is very exciting because lots of things happen at once.

I would recommend this book to 7 and a half+.

A Home For Teasel

                  BOOK REVIEW

REVIEWED BY SOPHIE THOMPSON

The main characters are Mrs Tilney, Gwen, and, of course, Teasel. Mrs Tilney is an old woman, who sounds very posh, but she looks a little poor while Gwen is a quite mysterious little girl. Teasel is very, very naughty and adventurous.

When Gwen’s teacher asks if she could ask Gwen if she would like to help an elderly woman called Mrs Tilney, they, of course say yes. As Gwen finds out, Mrs Tilney has a horse called Teasel as she is, as Gwen is, a pony lover. Gwen try’s to spend most of her time at Mrs Tilney’s, with teasel, which means stopping her chores at home. Nevertheless, that does not mean that Gwen is at all aloud to stop doing the jobs she has to do for Mrs Tilney for that was what Gwen was there. Then one day, while Gwen and Teasel were on a ride, Mr Tilney got the stroke! Therefore, Gwen called her mum, and then she phoned the ambulance. Mrs Tilney has to go to hospital because she had to have some tests. Gwen then decides to go to hospital with Mrs Tilney just for company. Gwen has to sit in the “rellies room” which is where patients relatives or, in Gwen’s case, a friend. Gwen’s mum then decides to pick Gwen up. Then Gwen asked her mum if she could go to Mrs Tilney’s house change Teasel's hay and do a hoof check. Gwen’s mum answers with a yes and her mum drives her to Mrs Tilney’s house.

Then, when they go for teasel for the 3rd time,
Lily, Jill and Michael’s daughter falls down a little slope and sprains her ankle. Teasel has gone missing. Gwen has to decide whether to leave her friend or go looking for her beloved horse. What decision will she make..?

I would recommend this book to about 7+.
