The Witch of Turlingham
Academy Books 1-5
REVIEWED BY SOPHIE
THOMPSON
The main characters
in all five books are Sophie Morrow, Franklin Poulter (Sophie’s father), Katy
Gibson (Sophie’s BFF and Callum’s boyfriend), Callum Pearce (Sophie’s first
BFF), and Ashton Gibson (Katy’s brother and Sophie’s boyfriend\enemy!)
Book 1 (The Witch
of Turlingham Academy), Sophie and Callum go into Mrs Morrow’s desk to find
some report cards. However, when they get there, they find a parcel that says:
Miss Sophie Morrow
Turlingham Academy
Norfolk.
They are very puzzled
why Sophie’s mum had kept it from her all those months. Who could have sent the
parcel and what was inside?
Book 2, (Undercover
magic) Sophie Morrow is in bed when she hears a knock on the door and she thinks
that it’s her mum. Actually, it is Katy, Sophie’s BFF (best friend forever) and
when she gets to the door, Katy gives her a friendship bracelet. Katy put
fruits and leaves because of her green fingers. The reason she has green
fingers is because she is a…WITCH!!!
Book 3 (Secrets
and Sorcery). The whole of Turlingham Academy buzzed with the noise of five
hundred boarders filing in for assembly. Sophie went in with them, scanning the
rows of boys and girls dressed in red and grey for Katy. Monday morning was
always about the weekend gossip, but this morning’s gossip was completely
different! There was all the stuff with her wicked Aunt Angelica, and Sophie’s
dad coming back from nowhere. Sophie was awake most of night, every time she
shut her eyes she woke up again, remembering the magic orbs flying past her
head, and her father rushing in to save her and Katy.
Book 4 (Box of
Tricks). Sophie pushed through the crowd gathered in the grounds of Turlingham
Academy and stood on tiptoe to see over someone’s shoulder. All the teachers,
pupils, visitors and even reporters were outside to watch the big event. Today
the teachers of Turlingham were digging up the time capsule, buried when the
school was first built. Sophie couldn’t wait to see what was inside – it was
300 years old! The boys’ headmaster, Mr Pearce, and the history teacher, were
digging away just inside the fence. They were hot and sweaty.
Book 5 (Spellbound).
Sophie hurried across the courtyard in front of Turlingham Academy, holding a
gold-wrapped present and a white a white envelope. It was the last day of the
Christmas term, and the front drive was full up with cars. Parents and children
squealed with delight as they saw each other in ages.
I would recommend
these books to 8+.
